English: Syphilis is a rare STI caused by a bacterium. The transmission occurs mainly through unprotected sex where mucous membranes and body fluids come in contact. The disease is uncommon, but the number of infected people has increased over the past few years. Syphilis can be symptom-free, but is contagious at an early stage, which is why you should get tested if you’re in doubt. If the infection isn’t detected in time, it can lead to severe complications many years after a healed infection. If a pregnant person is infected, the infection can be passed on to the fetus during pregnancy. Syphilis is treatable and you can make a full recovery.Source: 1177.se and umo.se
